Top 5 Tips For Moving

by | Sep 6, 2018 | General

When you’re moving, things can easily begin to get overwhelming. Finding a new place to live, paying deposits, signing paperwork, and more start to take up the time you would like to spend packing and organizing! The following checklist is an easy way to get you back on track for moving into your new home!

  1. The Purge

If you’re like many of us, there’s probably a few things you don’t need to bring with you to your new home. Broken furniture, outdated decorations, and things like that sweater in the back of your closet that you’re convinced “could work with the right outfit” are easy opportunities for purging! Consider putting your unwanted items online for sale on sites like craigslist.com or your local nextdoor.com! You can also consider donating unwanted goods to a local shelter, or donation center, instead of putting them in the trash!

  1. The Sorting Hat

After you’ve gone through and purged what you’re not going to bring with you, you can start to mentally sort each room. Taking note of items and pieces that would require additional packaging supplies, insurance coverage, and more can help make things that much more efficient and organized.  Having your moving boxes sorted by room is a great way to help make unpacking that much easier, especially if you put it off for months like the rest of us!

  1. Packing Like a Pro

One of the things that’s easily forgotten during the chaos of moving, is moving supplies. Boxes, bubble wrap, tape, and more aren’t always something we have on hand. However, having the right moving supplies can make a world of difference in your move! Flimsy boxes, poor quality tape, and outdated supplies can easily result in broken or damaged items.  Consider looking into specialty containers for breakables like dishes and delicates like your wardrobe!

  1. Use it or Lose It

When you’ve packed up each room, one of the things that is easily forgotten is food. Your fridge and pantry are one of the last things you’re thinking about when moving. Try your best to plan your grocery trips a few weeks in advance to ensure you use up all your frozen and perishable food before moving! There’s nothing more annoying than remembering you have to clean out the fridge after you’ve packed up your final box.  Avoid taking last weeks leftovers with you with by using it or losing it!
