Chances are you may already be familiar with the extraordinary 3DTV experience from Time Warner Cable through several of their Movies On Demand, and coverage of The PGA Championship, Coke Zero 400 from Daytona and the Masters. There’s much more top notch 3D viewing coming your way, and Time Warner Cable is dedicated to bringing you all of the best in 3DTV programming by continuously searching for quality 3D content.

How Does 3DTV Work?

Remember the old “3D glasses” that made all of the special effects possible in the movie theaters? Today’s 3D technology has taken that same technology and developed a revolutionary dual approach for 3D eyewear. The system of “active eyewear” is designed so that a 3D program will project images for each eye separately. The left eye sees the left eye images through the rapid opening and closing of the shutters that are built right in to the 3D glasses, and alternately for the right eye and right eye images. As one eye views the images the other is blocked, and the intensity of 240 frame changes per second results in a razor sharp clean 3D image.

In the “passive glass” approach, two overlapping picture frames are projected on screen, and viewed with polarized lens glasses. Each lens can view only one image, and the brain processes these images as a three dimensional representation. Two dimensional viewing is also enabled with this type of TV.

What Equipment Do You Need For 3DTV?

Along with your HDTV that is 3D ready, you will need Time Warner Cable Digital Cable with an HD or HD DVR set top receiver box connected with an HDMI cable to your 3DTV set. Whatever type of HDTV set you have, you will need the correct “active shutter” or “passive” corresponding glasses.
