Facebook Users Beware Of Online Scammers Posing As Facebook Security
With all the changes that Facebook has been making it is hard to know exactly what is new and what is not. Most recently scammers have started posting security messages to Facebook users trying to trick them into providing their credit card information. After the credit information has been handed over, these scammers will send out an instant message to all of the compromised accounts contacts. In these instant messages, the scammers will pretend to be Facebook Security. “The profile picture will be changed to the Facebook logo and the name will be translated to ‘Facebook Security’,” said David Jacoby, a Lab Expert at Kapersky Labs. “This Facebook phishing attack is pretty interesting because it does not just try to trick the victim into visiting a phishing Web site. It will reuse the stolen information and login to the compromised account and change both profile picture and name,” writes Jacoby.
So not only do you have your information stolen, they will then contact all of your friends and try and do the same thing to them. The message will read something like this: “Last Warning: Your Facebook account will be turned off because someone has reported you. Please do re-confirm your account security by:” it will then proceed to leave you a URL that ends in “vu.” Once you click on that unsecured site you will be directed to a Web site made to look like a Facebook page that will then prompt the visitor to provide their name, e-mail, password, security question, e-mail account password, country and birth date. You will then be asked to provide your credit card information, expiration date, security code and billing address. Facebook deeply apologizes for any inconvenience this may be causing their users and protecting the people who use Facebook from spam is at the top of their priority list. They advise users not to click on links in strange messages, even if they have been posted by a friend. To learn more about Online Identity Theft Protection visit Connect Your Home.
