Troubleshoot DVR Issues

How to Prevent Losing DVR Recordings

You typically want to manage the deletion of a program yourself; however, the hard drive manages storage based on available space and copy protection standards imposed on a recording.

To Prevent Users from Deleting Recordings

Set locks on the DVR to prevent recorded events from being deleted.
To protect a recording, select Protect on the information screen for that recording.

Not Enough Storage Space

If your DVR runs out of storage space, existing recordings will be deleted to make room for new recordings. Only recordings that are not protected are deleted.
To protect a recording, select Protect on the information screen for that recording.

Deleted By Copy Protection

Copy Protection rules allow only one copy of a recording to exist. If you have moved a recording to another storage device, such as an external hard drive, the original recording will be deleted from your DVR.

Hard Drive Failure

The Error Code may display 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, or 07.

The DVR was interrupted by signal loss or power failure while recording.

1. Reset Receiver

If the issue is only on one receiver, unplug the Dish receiver for 10 seconds and plug back in.
It may take up to 5 minutes for the reset process to be completed.

Timer Issues

1. Check For Skipped Timers

Ensure that the timer was not skipped by a user, or due to a conflict with another timer. When more than one event is set to record at the same time, the timer with the lowest priority will be skipped. To change priority, select Set Priority on the information screen for that timer.
